After 12 years in Canada, Matt returned to his hometown
of Sydney, bringing a wealth of experience and passion for opera. He holds a
Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto, majoring in composition, and
a Master of Music in Opera Performance from the University of British Columbia.
While in Canada, Matt performed roles such as Tamino in Die Zauberflote, Nika
Magadoff in Menotti's The Consul, and Herzog von Urbino in Strauss' Eine Nacht
in Venedig. He also performed the tenor solo for Beethoven's Ninth Symphony
with the UBC Symphony Orchestra, and toured as a soloist with the UBC Opera
Ensemble to the Czech Republic and China. Matt's extensive experience also includes playing Tito in La
Clemenza di Tito at the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy and Tamino in the
Czech Republic for the European Music Academy. Since coming back to Sydney,
Matt has appeared as Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Aeneas in Dido and
Aeneas, and as 1st Commissaire in Les Dialogues des Carmelites. Most recently he has been associated with The Opera and Song Company as narrator and tenor in Rusalka and with Operantics in A Kurt Weill Double Bill.
