The Many Tales of Hoffman
The Tales of Hoffmann is an opéra fantastique by French composer, Jacques Offenbach. Dr. Robert Mitchell was a Senior Chorister and soloist with Opera Australia, from 1973 until recently. Robert, who for his doctorate, prepared a critical edition of Offenbach's
La Vie Parisienne, is well-versed in opera of 19th century France. On Monday 5 June he guided us through the evoltionary journey of this delightful opera and we looked at a number of arias and sequences that are lesser known and were added at later stages.
