Bernstein's Candide

On Monday March 3, UNE lecturer in music, Dr Paul Smith, discussed Leonard Bernstein's masterpiece, Candide. Since its failure on Broadway in 1956, Bernstein continued evolving Candide to its current form. Paul took us through archival material from the Bernstein collection, discussing the various formats the operetta took in its evolution, as well as presenting us with many of the show's beautiful and clever musical items. The show is currently being presented in Sydney by Opera Australia.
